Proclaim the praises of Him Who called you out of darkness and into His wonderful light!

(I Peter 2:9)

What are we looking for in a prospective Proclamation Brass member?

In a nutshell, we are looking for members who are serious about playing their instrument and serious about serving Jesus Christ with that instrument.  We desire our rehearsals to be an ego-free zone where members are committed to ministering in an collaborative ensemble setting and who bring a cooperative and teachable spirit.

One thing we do require of all our members is an affirmation of agreement with our Statement of Faith.

What talent level do we require?

Our members bring varying levels of playing abilities.  Some have been professional players, some hold music degrees, and most are amateurs.  If you're interested in finding out if you are right for Proclamation Brass, and if we are right for you, please contact us below so we can get to know each other better.

What is the audition process?

Your audition will be very informal.  You do not need to play any scales or etudes for us.  We ask that you attend two full rehearsals with us so we can get to know each other.  Don't worry... we know that you'll be sight reading.  We're mostly evaluating how you play with an ensemble, and also how we feel you'd fit in with the group in general.  At one of those rehearsals, we will probably ask you to tell us about yourself, including your musical experience and your faith story.  After those two rehearsals, the current group members will take a vote on whether to invite you to join us.  We also know and expect that you'll be evaluating all of us... we want it to be a good fit for everyone involved.

How much do Proclamation Brass members get paid?

The rewards for being a member are great, though they are not financial.  We are a ministry primarily focused on bringing the blessing of quality brass music to local churches, most of which could not put together a brass ensemble from within their membership.  We are greatly blessed by preparing music of praise to Jesus Christ, by being a part of a group of believers who regularly support one another in prayer and friendship, and by being a blessing to those to whom we minister.

What is our rehearsal schedule?

We normally rehearse on Monday evenings from 7-9 PM in Kalamazoo.  Due to scheduling issues, we often move rehearsal to Tuesday one evening per month, typically the Tuesday after the 4th Monday.

How often do we perform?

We perform, on average, 12-15 times per year.  Most of these performances are during Sunday morning church services, and they may cluster at certain times per year (e.g., the Christmas season).
