BRENDA MOORE

Brenda is a retired elementary instrumental music teacher with the Kalamazoo Public Schools. She earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Eastern Michigan University and a master’s degree in the Art of Teaching from Mary Grove College. Brenda also currently plays with the Kalamazoo Concert Band.

Trumpet
Cal is a Production Manager at Mall City Containers in Kalamazoo. He holds an Associate of Arts degree from KVCC. In high school, Cal studied under Clarence Doornboss, and then played with the Kalamazoo Concert Band in the mid-1970s. In the mid-1980s, Cal started playing once again, and has been ministering with his trumpet ever since.

Trombone
Before his retirement, Greg was Vice President of Human Resources at Summit Polymers, and currently volunteers at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo. After playing with the Winston-Salem Junior Symphony while in high school, he took a 29 year break from playing, and picked up his trombone again when his son started playing tuba. Greg currently studies with Dr. Steve Wolfinbarger, Professor of Trombone at Western Michigan University.

Klay is the Program Director for WMUK radio in Kalamazoo. He holds a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University, where he studied with Frank Crisafulli (legendary trombonist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra). Klay also enjoys playing concertina with a local Irish band.

Leward is a Senior Database Engineer with Thomson Reuters. He holds a Bachelor of Science with majors in Bible and Sacred Music from Maranatha Baptist University. Leward’s most influential trumpet teacher was the late Dr. Stephen Jones, longtime Western Michigan University Professor of Trumpet.

Trombone
Paul, a US Air Force veteran and pilot, is an Airspace System Inspector Pilot with the Federal Aviation Administration. He has been playing trombone since the age of 10, and has performed with several military jazz bands, with Grammy-winning trumpet player Clark Terry, and at the Kennedy Center in New York.

Paul works for Dimplex Thermal Solutions testing refrigeration lines and generally ensuring product quality. Paul is also an excellent tenor whose primary voice teacher was Fay Smith, and he has studied at both Interlochen Arts Camp and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Paul was part of the Kalamazoo Singers in the early 1980s, and for many years sang with the men’s vocal group 4Given Vessels.

Tim works for Kalamazoo Public Schools as an instrument repair technician, and also operates a freelance instrument repair business. He holds a degree in band instrument repair from Red Wing Vo-Tech Institute. Tim has studied trumpet with Bill Camp of the Chicago Classic Brass, and has repaired horns for celebrities such as Phil Driscoll and Jimmy Panko.
